AGARTALA, Sept 15 - Launching a scathing attack on the erstwhile Marxist regime for leading Tripura to a bleak future, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday said tourism was one of the focus areas of the new government to turn around the states fortunes.
Deb, speaking at the Neermahal Jal Utsov at Melagarh, revealed his plan for the countrys second lake palace Neermahal like Udaipur in Rajasthan. If a tourist can spend Rs 5,000 for a 30-minute boat ride in Udaipur, why cant the same thing happen here at Neermahal in Melagarh? We have to create some tourism-related infrastructure, he said. The current combined earning of Neermahal and Rudrasagar stands at Rs 40 lakh only.
Asserting that he wants to promote Neermahal and Rudrasagar globally, Deb said the previous government did not take any steps to tap Neermahals true potential. Thats the reason why earning of the countrys second lake palace could not make any mark even at the national level. The Left regime must be blamed for it, he said.
Deb said a three-star category hotel would be established in and around Neermahal to provide good facilities to tourists within one year. An entrepreneur has already shown interest to establish a three-star hotel here. If this happens, there will be lots of job opportunities for the local people, he said.
Deb also said that distribution of ducks among fishermen living on the banks of Rudrasagar has been a hit, as many ducks have started laying eggs. I promise you what a 20-year Chief Minister could not make it happen. With the next one or two years, the economy of Neermahal and Rudrasagar will be Rs 100 crore, he said.
