AGARTALA, Dec 17 - NEDA convener and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to visit Tripura this month to finalise seat sharing arrangement with the regional IPFT for the ensuing Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
The date and schedule of Sarmas visit has not been finalised yet, but it will be announced soon as the Central BJP leadership has entrusted the responsibility for sealing the seat sharing deal with the IPFT with Sarma, a skilled negotiator and troubleshooter for the BJP in the North East.
Disclosing this, IPFT spokesperson Mangal Debbarma said that they had recently campaigned for the UPPL in the just-concluded election to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
In the victory celebration of the UPPL in Kokrajhar, the IPFT leadership was also invited and a delegation comprising Mevar Kumar Jamatia, Brishaketu Debbarma, Mangal Debbarma himself and the partys youth wing chief, Shukla Charan Noatia, had attended the function as special guests.
In a brief exchange of views on the situation in Tripura in the run-up to the autonomous development council polls, Sarma had informed the IPFT leaders that he would go to Tripura in the current month at the instance of the central BJP leadership and sort out the differences over seat sharing.
The IPFT is demanding 22 out of the total 28 seats, which has already been communicated to the BJPs national president, JP Nadda.
