NEDA conceived to wipe out Cong: MNF chief

By The Assam Tribune

AIZAWL, June 26 - Mizo National Front (MNF) president Zoramthanga on Friday said a new alliance of non-Congress parties of the Northeastern region will be formally launched in Guwahati on July 13.

The launch of the alliance called North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) is likely to be participated by BJP president Amit Shah and several Union Ministers. NEDA would support the NDA Government at the Centre, he told party workers at Hnam Run, MNFs office here.

NEDA has been conceived to wipe out Congress from NE, Zoramthanga said, adding the national party has already been uprooted from Delhi and recently from Assam.

He said at least 10 non-Congress parties met in Guwahati recently to draft the constitution for NEDA, and MNF is its only member from Mizoram.

MPCC: Meanwhile, the ruling Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) yesterday announced that the party would face the coming State Assembly elections in 2018 under the leadership of Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla.

The MPCC Executive meeting held at the Congress Bhavan in Aizawl for the first time since 2013 Assembly polls, projected Lal Thanhawla as the Chief Ministerial candidate.

The decision came after three years of the Congress second consecutive term and two years before the State Assembly polls.

Earlier in December 2013, just after he was sworn-in as the CM, Lal Thanhawla hinted at a press conference that he may be too old to continue as CM after the 2018 Assembly polls. PTI
