NEC holds review meeting in Shillong

SHILLONG, June 23 � The North Eastern Council (NEC) today held a review meeting on the ongoing NEC funded projects in the Northeastern States which were sanctioned under the human resource development and education sector.

The officials of the concerned departments of the State Governments in the region attended the meeting. Secretary NEC Ameising Luikham, emphasised upon timely completion of the projects and schemes by the implementing agencies.

The meeting on regional plan for the education sector was also held on the same day. The meeting was chaired by Prof Ashoke K Dutta and MP Bezbaruah, NEC members and attended by Vice Chancellors from the universities of Tripura, Nagaland, Dibrugarh and representatives from institutions like NEHU, Gauhati University, IIT, Guwahati, NERIE, UGC and officials from the State Governments.

NEC officials said various aspects of the education sector were discussed like the prevalence of high school dropout rates in all the States of the region, popularisation of teaching of science and mathematics, including provisioning of laboratories especially at school level through modern methods.
