Nearly Rs 3 cr seized from DFO�s houses

GUWAHATI, June 14 - The anti-corruption wing of the Assam Police has so far seized nearly Rs 3 crore cash during multiple raids conducted at the houses owned by Divisional Forest Officer of Dhemaji, Mahat Chandra Talukdar, since Monday.

Talukdar was arrested on charges of taking bribe and amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income on Monday in Dhemaji, where he was posted.

Today itself, more than Rs 2 crore cash was recovered from his RG Baruah Road Tiniali house in Guwahati. Investigators have also seized documents related to his investments and his multiple bank accounts are also being examined. A team of bank officials has also been roped in to assist the investigators in making the accurate assessment.

Gold ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees were also seized, along with an XUV vehicle. Animal body parts, including tiger and deer skin and ivory, were also part of the seizure.

Sources informed that the anti-corruption wing recovered cash from the three digital lockers and secret chambers of his Geetanagar residence. They added that Talukdar�s houses at Barbhag Kalag and Nalbari town were also raided this evening by anti-corruption sleuths with the help of Kamarkuchi police.

Later in the evening, Talukdar was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Kamrup (Metro), which remanded him to 24 hours� police custody.
