DIBRUGARH, May 26 - Nearly 8,000 people along with their livestock have been affected by floods in the district. Six villages within Chabua revenue circle have been submerged.
Some of the worst affected villages as per government sources are Dodhia, Gereki, Gereki Nepali, Raidang, Rongmola and Tengabari Miri Gaon. All the affected areas are forest villages and fall within the home gaon panchayat (Bindhakota) of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
As per official figures, about 7,897 people, approximately 5,389 big animals, 586 small animals, around 1,200 poultry birds and 275 hectares of cropland have been affected while one house has been damaged in the current deluge.
The local administration has already stationed two boats at Dodhia for rescue, relief and any emergency in the area. The requirement for relief, including animal feed, has been received and the administration is arranging distribution tomorrow, Dipjyoti Hatikakoty, district official from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, told The Assam Tribune.
Meanwhile, artificial flood has inundated a few houses and roads at Graham Bazar and Paltan Bazar of the town here.
