Nearly 80% voter turnout in Kokrajhar subdivision

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 10 - Amidst tight security, the second phase of BTC polls held in 5 seats under Kokrajhar sadar subdivision passed off peacefully with large voter turnout.

Nearly 80 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Kokrajhar sadar subdivision till the filing of this report and more than 80 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Gossaigaon and Parbatjhora sadar subdivisions in Kokrajhar district. It may be mentioned here that there are 6 seats under Gossaigaon subdivision and one seat under Parbatjhora subdivision.

�Till now we have got the record of nearly 80 per cent turnout in the Kokrajhar sadar subdivision. The exact percentage of the polling will go up as we are yet to receive some data. The polling has passed off peacefully in Kokrajhar sadar subdivision, said Bhaskar Phukan, Returning Officer of Kokrajhar Sadar subdivision and the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar.

Kokrajhar district administration expressed its gratitude to the voters for turning up at the polling stations and casting their valuable votes following COVID-19 protocol.

According to sources, Gossaigaon sadar subdivision registered more than 80 per cent while Parbatjhora sadar subdivision also registered over 80 per cent and the exact percentage of the polling will go up as some data is yet to be received from different polling stations, sources said.

From the morning, people were seen in long queues in the polling stations to exercise their franchise. BPF supremo and former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary cast his vote at Debargaon School along with his wife this morning.
