Nearly 400 vehicles seized, 30 cases filed at Nagaon

NAGAON, April 11 - Police in Nagaon seized as many as 388 vehicles � including 336 two-wheelers, 45 four-wheelers, 6 three-wheeler and a truck � from various spots of the town for violating the restrictions and guidelines of the ongoing lockdown.

A total of 30 cases have been registered against the violators in various police stations, and 26 people have been arrested in the district till date. Simultaneously, police also imposed fine totalling Rs 30,900 in the town.

According to sources, police has taken several measures to sensitise people of the district to take precautionary measures against the COVID-19 pandemic. Police has also tried to persuade people to follow the restrictions and guidelines issued by the government during the lockdown.

Meanwhile, following an appeal by the State government, several organisations, individuals and government employees of the district on Saturday extended help to needy people and daily-wage earners in various areas in the district by distributing packets of essential goods.

Organisations like Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Nagaon Zila Yoga Committee, Silpi Kanon, Nagaon distributed packets of essential goods among the poor people in the town and on the outskirts like Telia Pohukata, Majorati and other villages.

The district Agriculture department also arranged vegetables for the people at fair prices at various locations, and also made arrangements for sufficient vehicles to carry the vegetables and other items directly from the farmers to the various selling points.
