NE situation fragile: Centre

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Feb 24 The Centre today conceded that the internal situation in the North-east is fragile due to the activities of the insurgent outfits operating from across the border in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

The insurgent outfits of the North-east have established their camps, shelter houses and training centres in the two countries, said Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju in a Rajya Sabha reply.

About the steps taken to tackle the situation, Rijiju said that border fences have been erected in strategic land border areas along the Indo-Bangladesh border, which is beyond 150 yards from the Zero Line.

There are also plans to fence a stretch of the Indo-Myanmar border near the trade centre of Moreh in Manipur, he added.
