NE MPs to meet in Sikkim to discuss development

Gangtok, Feb 5 � The North East MPs� Forum (NEMPF) is holding its first summit here on February 12.

The Summit is the first of its kind bringing together all the MPs from the North East, both of the Rajya Sabha as well as the Lok Sabha. Out of a total of 39 MPs about 27 � 30 are expected to attend the Summit.

The theme of the Conference is �Ushering in people-centric progress and development through peace�.

The NEMPF chairman, Mukut Mithi, Rajya Sabha member, who earlier served as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and later as Lt. Governor of Pondicherry, will preside over the conference.

On February 13, the MPs are scheduled to visit Nathula and a briefing by the Army authorities is also slated on the security and border trade situation.

The MPs will be passing several resolutions during the Gangtok meet. The resolutions passed at the recently concluded meeting of the North East Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in Shillong will serve as an input for the forthcoming Summit.

The Speakers of the Assemblies of Meghalaya and Sikkim are expected to attend the conference as special invitees, informed a release issued by convener and general secretary of NEMPF, PD Rai.
