AGARTALA, June 3 - Under the Narendra Modi-led Government, the Northeastern region has witnessed a remarkable progress during the past three years, said Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Many news things have happened in the region over past three years in the field of infrastructure � rail, road and air connectivity and electricity, he told the media in BJP party headquarters here on Saturday.
�Modiji firmly believes development is not possible without massive infrastructure development and that�s why he is pushing infrastructural development in the region�, Sonowal, who arrived here to inaugurate MODI Fest at Santir Bazar in South Tripura district reiterated.
�Now, the NE will grow in a faster way after so many initiatives by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Assam alone attracted Rs 6,500 crore investment in a single year which is a record�, he pointed out.
In Assam, the BJP Government is committed to good governance in every sphere of life so that people could get their legitimate rights, he said, adding that the government has adopted a zero tolerance policy against corruption.
�Altogether 60 officials have been put behind the bar on corruption charges. The government will not spare anybody if he or she is found guilty in corrupt practices�, he said.
On the infiltration issue, Sonowal said he has personally visited some border districts of Assam including Dhubri, Mancachar, Karimganj and Cachar to take stock of the border situation.
�We are against illegal infiltration from across the border at any cost�, he said, adding that road blockade and shut down in Manipur is a cause of concern for the entire North East.
Sonowal said the BJP will alone form the next government in Tripura by ending a long Marxist regime. �The Marxist regime has failed to live up to the people�s expectation as the government lacks in vision. Due to corrupt practice of flagship programme including MGNREGA, Tripura could not grow in the Left regime�, he alleged.
Asserting that the CPI(M)-led Government can�t bring any change in Tripura, Sonowal said the BJP will certainly form the next government here that will ensure speedy development of the State. On the alliance issue, he said the BJP alone can topple the Marxist regime in Tripura but anything can happen in politics and the party�s pradesh committee will take a final call on it at the right time.
