NE got 231 km rly tracks in 5 yrs

NEW DELHI, March 19 - The Railways managed to commission 231 km of new lines in the northeastern region during the last five years (2014-19), Minister of State for DoNER Dr Jitendra Singh said.

In a Rajya Sabha reply, the minister said 41 new railway stations were constructed along these new lines.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has constructed 3,178 km of roads in the region during these five years. During the same period, under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, a total of 22,882 km of roads have been constructed, while 987 km roads have been constructed by the Border Roads Organisation. The Ministry of DoNER under the North East Road Sector Development Scheme has also completed 187.13 km of roads in five projects.

In a separate reply, the minister said utilisation certificates of Rs 25.89 crore is pending in respect of 16 projects undertaken by the Ministry of DoNER and North Eastern Council since 2018. There is no large scale pendency of utilisation certificates, he added.
