NE film fest next month

SHILLONG, Oct 20 � Film makers from the North East would hold a three-day Regional Short Film Festival of India here from November 16 � the first of its kind in the region.

The film festival with the theme �The natives of a nation� will include feature and documentary films from all over the country. The festival would screen films of a total of fifteen hours from the Northeastern region and about ten hours total duration from the rest of India. The event is being organised by the North East Film and TV Producers� Directors� Association (NEFTPDA).

President of the Association and renowned film-maker, Jahnu Barua facilitated screening of film that won the 2009 National award and also the competition segment of the festival. Eight eminent personalities from the country would judge the films.

In the competition section for North East films there will be four categories of awards � Best Film Award, second Best Film Award, Best Director Award and Jury award for the Best Film.

NEFTPDA is planning to institute the awards in the name of local eminent personalities with exceptional achievement and contribution to the society. Special committees have been formed to identify the persons in whose name the award shall be conferred upon.

Festival Director, Raphael Warjri said, regional film portrays better the true aspirations and emotions of India rather than mainstream Hindi and English films. �Regional films are more truthful, reliable and authentic,� Warjri said.
