NE Children�s book fair under way at Nagaon

NAGAON, Oct 26 � The first book fair of the State was held at Nagaon in 1978 which was organised by Bhaswar Prakash in collaboration with the Nagaon district administration. Nowadays book fairs have become an annual affair in Nagaon.

The North East Children Book Fair is now under way at Khagen Mahanta Khetra. Inaugurating the book fair on October 24, well-known literatteur and former president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Lakshminandan Bora observed that though this is the age of information technology but this age has affected some of our traditional thinking. To keep our mind on the right track, Dr Bora stressed on writing of good books.

Dr Bora further said that now books are available on the internet. He observed that there are a number of good short stories in Assamese including those of Lakshminath Bezbaroa. Dr Bora advocated that these stories be available on the internet to attract the new generation. There is a necessity of science-based literature, Dr Bora added.

The souvenir Alokor Yatra was formally released by another famous writer Nirupama Borgohain. In her address, she said that a person will abandon his intimate friend but not books.

Literatteur Tushaprabha Kalita and actress Chetana Das also addressed the inaugural session. Dr KK Deka, VC of Shreeemanta Sankardev University chaired the inaugural function.

A number of eminent persons of Nagaon were present in the inaugural function. In the morning, the book fair flag was formally unfurled by MLA and president of the organising committee Durlav Chamua.
