By Correspondent

TEZPUR, Aug 25 - Institutions of higher education in the NE region are deprived of funds by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the Peoples Committee for Constitutional Rights has alleged.

In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister and the Union HRD Minister, it alleged that the discriminations carried out by the post-independence Governments, led the institutions of higher learning of the region to such a state, that they could not plan for the development of studies in science and technology and other subjects, the president and secretary of the body, Pulin Bhattacharya and Pankaj Kumar Nath said in the memorandum, adding that while going through the Annual Report of UGC 2013-14, it was observed that out of the 40 central universities in India, the NE States account for 9 (22.5 %). But at the time of allocation of funds, these nine universities get only 10 per cent of the allotted funds.
