TEZPUR, March 26 � A cadre of the NDFB (R), identified as Deepjyoti Daimari alias Dawdoi, was arrested by the Tezpur Police on Tuesday night from Guwahati and produced in front of the Judicial Magistrate here on Wednesday.
Rakesh Roshan, Sonitpur SP (Operation), told this correspondent that Daimari was involved in the assault on Mrigen Medhi, a trader of Chardwar area, on March 22.
Medhi was assaulted for not being able to pay tax to the NDFB (R). In protest against the unlawful act, the people of the area staged a strong protest in front of the Chardwar Police Station, alleging a police-militant nexus and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprit involved in the assault.
Bowing to the mounting public pressure, the Tezpur Police, with the their counterparts in Guwahati, launched an operation in Guwahati and apprehended the militant.
Meanwhile, in another development, the police arrested a hardcore NDFB (S) cadre on Tuesday night from the Batachipur area. The police have not yet disclosed the name of the arrested cadre in the interest of further investigation.
