MANGALDAI, Oct 12 � Dedung Daimary alias Khangru a hardcore leader of the NDFB Ranjan Daimary faction, his wife Nisha Daimary and their associate Johny Dung who were reportedly arrested by Bangalore Police with specific tip-off from 65 Field Regiment of Red Horns Army operating in Darrang district along with Darrang police, have been brought to Mangaldai at about 4.30 pm today. Till filing of this report, the trio have been interrogated by high-level police and Army officials at the official chamber of SP, Darrang under tight security.
When contacted, SP Darrang, Prithipal Singh said that nothing could be disclosed till interrogation was over. However, he informed that they will be produced in the court tomorrow.
According to an Army source, the trio was traced by tracking the mobile phones used to make extortion calls to businessmen and government officials, especially in Sonitpur and Udalguri districts in the name of NDFB.
Dedung Daimary, nephew of Ranjan Daimary and the kingpin of the extortion racket with the assistance of Nisha and Johny, was giving extortion demands through cell phone from Bangalore and the extortion amounts were reportedly deposited in few accounts in Udalguri and Shillong branches of SBI.
According to the source, corroborating the inputs from CDR analysis and ATM withdrawals from suspected bank accounts belonging to Nisha and Johny in Bangalore, the extortion racket was successfully unearthed. The source further added that the trio was staying in Bangalore since May last.
