NDA will secure two-third majority in LS polls: Shahnawaz

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, June 26 - BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain today claimed that the NDA would secure a two-third majority in the Lok Sabha elections due next year.

The BJP aims to secure a 51 per cent vote share in the 2019 general elections banking on the welfare steps taken by the Narendra Modi-led Government for the common people, he told media persons at the BJP office here.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had only three crore members across the country and now the united Opposition will have to fight the electoral battle against a party which has 13 crore members and is ruling in as many as 20 States, stated Hussain, who arrived here to attend a programme to observe a black day against the Emergency proclaimed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Hussain said the BJP-led NDA has an edge over the united Opposition under the leadership of Narendra Modi who has transformed the country. The main weakness of the Opposition in the 2019 polls will be Rahul Gandhi, the Congress president, he quipped.

On being asked if the Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh would be a semi-final to the 2019 final match, the former Union minister said: For a party like the BJP, every match is a final match...BJP leaders and supporters return home only after securing victory.

Giving full marks to the Biplab Deb-led Government in Tripura, Hussain stated the party has savoured the electoral victory in Tripura more than it did the wins in Gujarat and Assam.

On the BJPs decision to pull out of the Mehbooba Mufti Government in Jammu and Kashmir, Hussain said that the BJP had tried to provide a democratically-elected government to the people of the State, but it did not work for long.

Now the State is under the Governors rule. The BJP wants the militants to shun violence and join the national mainstream or else face the consequences, he added.

BJP State prabhari Deodhar and State general secretary Rajib Bhattacharjee were present in the press conference.
