NCHAC team meets Central ministers

HAFLONG, Feb 28 � A team of Executive Members and officials of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), led by CEM Debojeet Thaosen, met Radha Mohan Singh, Central Minister for Agriculture, in New Delhi recently and discussed the development schemes in the field of agriculture. The NCHAC team demanded schemes for organic farming, etc., for the benefit of tribal farmers in the district.

The team also met Nitin Gadkari, Central Minister for Road, Transport & Highways, and discussed the slow pace of construction of the national highway from Haflong to Jatinga. Gadkari reportedly assured the team of resolving the problem within the next six months. The NCHAC delegation also demanded early construction of a new highway from Silchar to Guwahati via Harangajao and Thuruk.

The team also held a meeting in Guwahati on their return journey with Sarat Borkotoky, Assam Education Minister, and discussed matters relating to contractual lecturers at the Haflong Government College. They also held a discussion on the establishment of a central university in Dima Hasao and the provincialisation of about 21 high schools.

The team included Chairman Ngamrothang Hmar, Executive Members, MACs, Principal Secretary and other officials.
