NCHAC polls on Jan 19

GUWAHATI, Dec 22 - Elections to the 28 constituencies of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) will be held on January 19 next year, according to a notification issued by the State Election Commission today.

Polling will be held in 280 polling stations from 7 am to 3 pm. The counting will be on January 22.

Nominations can be filed from December 24 to January 3, and scrutiny will be held on January 4. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 7.

With the announcement of the elections, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force today.

Of the total 280 polling stations, 101 have been identified as sensitive, 86 very sensitive and 93 comparatively safe.

The total number of voters is 1,22,229. There has been a 1.22 per cent increase in the number of voters this time compared to the last elections in 2013.

The State Election Commission will use around 2,600 government officials and around 1,000 security personnel for conducting the polls.
