By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 11 - The Congress would stake claim to form the NC Hills (Dima Hasao) Autonomous Council (NCHAC) by meeting Governor PB Acharya tomorrow.

The Congress members of the Autonomous Council also made it clear while addressing mediapersons here today that they would choose their leader in a democratic way and there was no tussle among them on this issue.

The partys strength in the 30-member Autonomous Council has now shot up to 17 after ten members of the Council formally joined the Congress after deserting the BJP recently.

Former Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Autonomous Council Debojit Thaosen said that the members would meet Governor PB Acharya tomorrow at 11 am to stake their claim to form the Council. Since we have a comfortable majority, we hope that as per the democratic norms, the entire process would be complete in another three to four days, he said.

The Council members, who recently joined the Congress, were felicitated by Congress president Anjan Dutta at the party office, Thaosen said.

He further said that the members had no disagreement over the issue of the Councils Chief Executive Member. In the past also we have always shown political maturity.

Our leader would be selected by the members in a democratic way. We would accept the collective decision of the members, he added.
