DIPHU (Assam), April 23 (PTI) - Assam's North Cachar Hills district was today renamed Dimahasao.
Following the demand of the Dimasa tribal community residing in the hill district, the Assam Government renamed the district in a notification amid protests from non-Dimasa tribal communities.
Protesting against the notification and demanding a separate non-Dimasa state to be carved out of NC Hills district, the North Cachar Hills Indigenous Women's Forum, a body of non-Dimasa women, today held a rally here.
The rally, which was attended by more than 4000 activists, was organised to put forth their demand for a separate non-Dimasa state to protect the rights of the tribal community.
