Navajyoti prevail over Sunrise

GUWAHATI, Aug 29 - In an action packed but clumsy encounter of the RG Baruah Super Division Football League at the Nehru Stadium here today, Navajyoti Club prevailed over Sunrise Athletic Club by a margin of 3-2 goals. Navajyoti enjoyed distinct domination in the first session and netted two goals. Nigerian striker Timothy Onyenka opened the account in the 16th minute receiving a through ball from Clever G Momin.

Other Nigerian Charles Egware enhanced the margin in the 20th minute. He was fed by Timothy from the right flank. Navajyoti took comfortable 3-0 lead in the 62nd minute through Charles. Sunrise custodian Munshi Saifuddin fumbled in gathering the ball off a shot taken by game maker Laldhuwma. Following the ball Charles gently pushed it into the gaol.

But the Sunrise boys made a brilliant fightback after conceding three goals. In the 70th minute Francish set the ball for Zwala who kept his cool and sent the ball home (1-3). After seven minutes defender Clarance made it 2-3 converting a penalty. Navajyoti�s Laldhuwma handled the ball inside the box and a spot kick was awarded against them. After the goal the Sunrise boys created a couple of scoring opportunities but Apurba Phukan and Francish could not capitalise.

After the break the game had to be suspended for about 15 minutes for some dispute occurred between the Sunrise coach and referees.

A Div: In the A Division League, Sporting Union played 1-1 draw against SAI Sports Club on the second ground of the Nehru Stadium. Dipankar Mushahary put SAI ahead in the 15th minute but Ajanta Rabha made it 1-1 in the 62nd minute.
