Navajyoti emerge champs in GSA cricket

GUWAHATI, May 4 � Navajyoti Club clinched the crown in the GSA A Division Cricket League for the Bhupen Chandra Mahanta Trophy.

In an entertaining summit clash at the Nehru Stadium here today, Navajyoti edged past FCI Sports Club by three wickets.

In the 35-over match, FCI notched up a fighting 151 losing all the wickets in 31.5 overs. Romario Sharma was their top-scorer with 62 off 66 balls.

But the total was not enough as Navajyoti reached the target losing seven wickets in 33.1 overs. ADC Rajib Prakash Baruah was the chief guest in the closing function.

The different individual prize winners are: Rahul Hazarika (FCI, best batsman), Chanakya Sarma (Navajyoti, best bowler), Hrishikesh Tamuly (FCI, man-of-the-tournament), Arminder S Oberoi (Navajyoti, man-of-the-final), Abdul Aziz (River Rine, best fielder), Koushik Jha (Navajyoti, best wicket keeper).

Brief scores: FCI SC 151 (Romario Sarma 62, Bitupan Das 20, Swadhin Kutum 20, Avijit Sinha Roy 3/41, Nipon Deka 2/21, Chanakya Sarma 2/25). Navajyoti 152/7 (Arminder S Oberoi 30, Jay Singh 26, Subham Mandal 20, Kon Urang 3/31).
