Navajyoti edge past FCI

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 26 - Navajyoti Club edged past listless Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club 1-0 in todays match of the RG Baruah GSA Super Division Football League.

In a lacklustre encounter at the Nehru Stadium here, after a dry first session Nigerian Charles Egware netted the all important goal in the 51st minute.

The margin should have been bigger but the Navajyoti attackers failed to utilise the scoring opportunities came their way. Apart from Egware, Timothy Inyenka and Raghunath Boro made some desperate effort at the FCI striking zone but they were not skilled enough to make the final cruise and hit the target.

The FCI boys were poor in every departments and hardly could make any headway to the opponents territory.

Gorachand Marandi, the agile Navajyoti midfielder fed Egware from the right flank and the lanky Nigerian beat the FCI custodian Gautam Injal with a sharp header.

A Division: Maharana Athletic Club played goal less draw against Sporting Union Club in the Jibeswar Goswami A Division Football League on the second ground of the Nehru Stadium.

Maharana was the dominating side with distinct territorial supremacy but failed to fire home despite creating a couple of openings.
