Natya Sangam fest from tomorrow

GUWAHATI, March 16 � A festival of contemporary theatre practices, traditions and diverse cultural expressions of India billed Natya Sangam is being held from March 18 to 20 at Rabindra Bhawan here under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama.

The festival would be inaugurated by Nrtiyacharya Jatin Goswami in presence of Pretom Saikia, commissioner and secretary, Cultural Affairs, Assam. State Minister of Cultural Affairs Bismita Gogoi would attend the valedictory function in presence of Helen Acharya, secretary, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Dlehi.

The programmes for the three-day festival are as follows: March 18 � Gayan Bayan to be presented by Kamargaon Anchalik Silpi Samaj, Assam; Baul Gaan (Raja Hasan, Agartal); Bharat Dance of Tiwas (Markamkusi Tiwa Kanchi Juri Jamat, Assam); Jayantiya Dance and Music (Puramonkynjing, Meghalaya); Folk dance of Telangana (Bharat Folk Arts Academy, Talengana) and Kino Kaon, an Assamese play directed by Pabitra Rabha.

The next day�s schedule of events are: Dhak and Dhol (Shankar Das and group, Agartala); Choir (F Lalringenga, Mizoram); Thangta and Dhol Cholam (Gaur Kishor Singh and JNMDA, Manipur); Jhumur Dance (Dulal Manki and group, Assam) and Dhuryodhana Vadham to be presented by the artistes of Idangunji Mahaganapati Yakshagana Mandali, Karnataka.

The concluding day�s programmes are: Folk songs of Assam to be presented by Umakanta Boiragi, Baby Bhuyan and Gunindra Nath Ojah; Dhomail Bou Dance and Ojah (Silchar Sangeet Vidyalaya); Folk songs and dance (Sharmila Gadaily and her troupe from Sikkim and Bodeso Manyu and group from Arunachal Pradesh); Baul Gaan (Raja Hasan, Agartala) and Gabargrichor, a Bhojpuri play directed by Prabhunath Thakur of Bihar, a press communique stated, adding, the programme is subject to change.
