Nat�l rollball from tomorrow

GUWAHATI, May 21 � Assam Rollball Association (ARA) will conduct the 8th National Sub-junior (U-14) Roolball Championship, for both boys and girls, at the Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education complex, Tepesia, Sonapur from May 23 to 25.

Informing this in a press conference here today, State rollball body secretary Bhumidhar Barman said that for the first time a national tournament of this event has been allotted to Assam and they are leaving no stone unturned to hold the meet in a befitting manner. Barman said that 15 States have already confirmed their participation. The teams are: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland, Chattishgarh, Kerala, Pondicherry, Assam, Telengana. The organisers are expecting more teams in the meet. The championship will be a league-cum-knockout affair.

ARA president Miftauddin Ahmed said that they are not getting any positive response from the State Government as far as financial assistance is concerned. But they have completed almost all arrangement despite facing acute financial hardship. More than 400 participants will take part in the three-day event.

Roolball Federation of India official Chandeswar Kumar, from Jharkhand, while describing about the game said that it is played by six players at a time in a 20m by 15m court. It is a combination of handball and basketball played with roller skates.

(Girl) Nikita Baruah (capt), Tisha Maheswari, Disha Jaiswal, Karishma Bothra, Rani Sankhla, Debanchi Mallik, Ranjeeta Barman, Anuska Jushi, Antara gangoli, Mehiren Ahmed.
