Natl identity cards to help detect aliens

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, July 8 Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said that the National Population Register (NPR) and Unique Identification Card would help in detection of illegal migrants.

The Home Minister, who was replying to questions in Lok Sabha, said that the Prime Minister had recently convened a meeting of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and NPR authorities. Both the authorities will take the initiative to prepare the NPR in a time-bound manner.

The NPR would help in identifying Indian nationals because based on NPR a national identity card would be issues.

The discussion during the Question Hour was marked by pandemonium, as Opposition All India Trinamool Congress MPs protested.

Singh said the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has sanctioned 3,326.14 km of fencing, out of which 2,823 km has been completed. At least 510 km remains unfenced.
