Nationwide stir over Wage Board on June 10

By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, June 7 Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees Organisations (CNNAEO) today strongly protested delay in notification of wage boards reports and warned of a nationwide agitation on June 10 if the government failed to approve the Majithia recommendations immediately, reports PTI.

We do not understand the reason for the government not notifying Majithia wage boards reports on wage fixation in the news organisations... If it is done deliberately under pressure of the media owners we would not tolerate it, CNNAEO general secretary M S Yadav said.

If the government does not immediately notify the recommendations of the Majithia wage board, the entire workforce of the newspaper industry will have no option but to launch a nation-wide agitation on Friday (June 10) against the government, Yadav warned after an emergency meeting of the body.

CNNAEO is spearheading the nationwide agitation for early notification of the wage boards recommendations for journalists and non-journalists of newspapers and news agencies.

Besides Yadav, Santosh Kumar, Madan Talwar and Roopchand of AINEF, IJUs Suresh Akhauri, Madan Singh, K B Pandit and S N Sinha, IFWJs Parmanand Pandey, NUJIs Rajendra Prabhu, M D Gangwar, UNIs M L Joshi and PTIs Sanjay Sinha and Ajay Tyagi attended the meeting.

The Confederation has termed as false, misleading and suppressive of facts the contention of the media owners that the impact of the wage board report would lead to closure of newspapers.

CNNAEO has already issued a detailed point-by-point clarification of the INS (Indian Newspaper Society) falsehood in this regard, Yadav said.
