Omicron Surge: Work from home for 50% staff below under-secretary level

Guwahati, Jan 4: In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases from the fast-spreading Omicron variant in the national capital, the Central Government has issued guidelines, allowing 50 per cent of its employees below the level of Under Secretary to work from home.

In an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel, it has been stated that physical attendance of government servants below the level of Under Secretary shall be restricted to 50 per cent of the actual strength and the remaining 50 per cent shall work from home.

The order also states that persons with disabilities and pregnant women employees have also been exempted from attending the offices.

Moreover, the Central government officers/staff will have to follow staggered timing to avoid overcrowding in the offices.

The order further states that all the employees residing in Covid containment zones have also been exempted from coming to the office till containment zones are de-notified

Meanwhile, to contain the spread of the virus, the biometric attendance has been suspended by the Personnel Ministry for all the Central Government employees till January 31.

Ministry of Personnel, Jitendra Singh in a tweet informed that the decision has been taken in the interest of the safety and health of the government employees.
