Guwahati, Jan 9: The Delhi Police has made the first arrest in the case of 'Sulli Deals' from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The accused, Aumkareshwar Thakur, believed to be the creator of the web-based application "Sulli Deals", was nabbed by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Special Cell of Delhi Police.

As per reports, the arrest was made based on the questioning of Niraj Bishnoi, the creator of the 'Bulli Bai' app who was recently arrested from Assam's Jorhat.

Doctored photographs of hundreds of Muslim women sourced without permission were listed for auction on the mobile application. The accused Aumkareshwar Thakur (26) did his BCA from IPS Academy in Indore and is a resident of Newyork City Township, said reports.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) KPS Malhotra said during preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted that he was a member of a group on Twitter and the idea to defame and troll Muslim women was shared there.

"He had developed the code on GitHub. The access of GitHub was with all the members of the group. He had shared the app on his Twitter account. The photos of the Muslim women were uploaded by the group members," the officer said.

The derogatory app 'Sulli Deals' surfaced last year which has triggered controversy all over the country. The app creators would use the photos illegally obtained from the women's social media handles and convince people to take part in the "auction
