TEZPUR, Jan 12 - Commemorating the 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the All Bodo Students� Union today observed the National Youth Day at Batashipur Milan High School.
The day was observed with the theme, �Empowering Youth for Self Reliance� and was graced by the ABSU president, Pramod Boro, vice-president, Dipen Boro, local MLA, Ashok Kumar Singhal, HoD, Department of Boro, LOKD College, Dhekiajuli, Dr Tulan Mushahari, social entrepreneur, North East Youth Foundation, ABSU adviser, Khwnkhra Swrgiary and social worker Sundarshan Narzary and was also attended by over 100 students from different schools of the area.
Urging the students to follow the ideology of the great Hindu monk and patriotic saint, Pramod Boro said that if one broadens his mental horizons and gets involved in any work with a positive attitude, he can reach his goal and reflect the goodness in his society and nation.
In his speech, the MLA of Dhekiajuli LAC, Ashok Kumar Singhal said that the youths are a major force without whom nobody can think of the development of a nation. �We the youths will have to utilise our talent for the betterment of the nation. There must be a definite goal and we want that everybody is to committed,� he said.
Other dignitaries present in the programme also spoke on the ideology of Swami Vivekananda and urged the youth to be committed to their nation.
At Kokrajhar: The 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and the �National Youth Day� was celebrated today here in the premises of Sri Sri Ramkrishna Ashram, Kokrajhar in a befitting manner with a day-long colourful programme.
The programme began with a mangalacharan and was followed by a procession. A religious meeting was also held on the occasion at the premises of Sri Sri Ramkrishna Ashram, Kokrajhar.
Swami Bimolananda Acharya among others attended the sabha. Distribution of fruits to the patients of RNB Civil Hospital at Kokrajhar and the distribution of blankets among the needy people was also organised.
On the occasion of �National Youth Day�, Rainbow, an NGO based in Kokrajhar in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra today organised a marathon race at Kokrajhar. Yuva Bharat, Sunrise and Naba Pragati (NGO) also supported the marathon race. The race began from Ward No. 1 near the Circuit House and ended at the Martyrs� Cemetery, Debargaon.
An Executive Member of the BTC, Rajib Kumar Brahma attended the programme as the chief guest. Gautam Sarkar, secretary, Rainbow (NGO) among others also attended the programme along with other guests and dignitaries.
Sanidul Islam of Kamrup bagged the 1st prize along with a cash reward of Rs 10,000 and certificate. Gwmwthao Brahma of Salakati and Sankar Hasda bagged the second and third prizes a long with cash rewards of Rs 5,000/- and Rs.3,000/- respectively.
