GUWAHATI, May 20 � The 28th National U-9 Open Chess Championship, organised by the Pondicherry State Chess Association on behalf of All India Chess Federation, started in Puducherry today. On the opening day, in boys table 1, top-rated FM Praggnandhaa R of Tamil Nadu beat Agarwal Krishnav of Gujarat while in girls table 1, top-rated WFM Divya Deshmukh won her opening match against Dash Adhisha of Odisha.

The Assam team�s performance was good with six players winning their opening ties. Assam�s first victory came with Sahil Dey who defeated Gowtham Reddy G of Andhra Pradesh within 15 minutes. Rishita Sinha gave the second victory for Assam defeating Labanya Budge of Madhya Pradesh. Manthan Dutta Kashyap defeated Bhavesh S of Tamil Nadu. Anchita Sarma got the better of Srihritha Sri D of Andhra Pradesh while Nawab Mukril Zadeed defeated Ram Soni of Haryana and Uday Bhaskar Sarma beat Aaryan Shah of Gujarat.

On the other hand, Assam�s Dhrupad Kashyap went down to Jain Kashish Manoj of Maharashtra while Snehasish Sinha lost to Manooneeth B of Puducherry.
