BISWANATH CHARIALI, May 19 � The National Technology Day, 2015 was celebrated by the Akash Science and Environment Education Centre, a premier children�s science organisation of the State, recently with a daylong programme, All Assam Tirtheswar Sarmah Memorial Children�s Science Quiz Competition. Forty students belonging to classes VIII, IX and X from Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Nagaon and Sonitpur districts participated In the competition. Dr Palashmoni Saikia, associate professor of Chemistry, Darrang College, conducted the quiz competition.
Earlier, deep homage was paid to the memory of late Tirtheswar Sarma by Indira Devi and others in a brief meeting presided over by Prof Kshiradhar Baruah, the founder president of Akash. Akash general secretary Ripunjoy Bordoloi stated the objectives of the programme and Jiten Bhagawati, president of the Sadou Asom Maina Parijat, spoke on the life and works of Tirtheswar Sarma.
The results of the quiz contest are as follows: 1st prize- Hrishikesh Dev Goswami and Priyanupam Khatoniar, Navarup Jatiya Bidyalay of Nagaon, 2nd prize- Klinton Baruah and Flemin Boruah, Sankardev Sishu Bidya Niketan, Bordoloni, Dhemaji, 3rd prize- Sahashrabdi Saikia and Manas Pratim Borah, Tupia Panchgaon High School, Sonitpur, and 4th prize- Jhilum Kashyap and Partha Pratim Talukdar, St Xavier�s High School, Biswanath Chariali.
At the closing ceremony, Abhijit Sarma Baruah, noted science writer and a national prize awardee for science popularisation, was felicitated. In his speech, he encouraged the students to write on science topics in Assamese in order to enrich science literature. Dr Bibha Devi and Dr Mukut Goswami gave away the prizes to the winners. Ripunjay Bordoloi offered the vote of thanks.
