GUWAHATI, Aug 29 - Along with the rest of the country, the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) today celebrated the National Sports Day which is organised on the occasion of the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand.
In a meeting held at the AOA conference hall here, personalities including the likes of Premadhar Sharma (journalist), Shivangi Sharma (swimmer), Kabita Devi (fencer), Birdie Boro (TT), Lovlina Borgohain (boxing) were felicitated by the organisers.
The meeting was chaired by AOA secretary Lakhya Konwar. On the occasion he said, Assam has been able to earn fame in the international sports map through the performances of its players.
AOA officials like Rajib Prakash Baruah, Bishnu Ram Nunisa, Hemanta Kumar Kalita, Anup Choudhury, Hiren Gogoi, journalist Subodh Malla Baruah, among others were present on the occasion.
Sports Authority of Assam organised a webinar on the occasion where noted sportspersons like Bhogeswar Barua, Monalisa Baruah Mehta, Kamlesh Mehta, Hima Das, Jayanta Talukdar, Madhurjya Baruah, among others spoke on sports in Assam.
