DHEMAJI, March 8 - This year�s National Science Day was celebrated at Dhemaji at the SFS School, Dhemaji premises here under the joint aegis of Dhemaji Block unit of Aryabhatta Science Centre and Dhemaji branch of Assam Science Society with a day-long programme.
The programme included competitions of art, science model, quiz and open meeting. More than 150 students from different schools in the district participated in the events.
The function began with the Assam Science Society�s flag hoisting at 8 am by Labanya Lahan Chutia, president, Dhemaji branch of Assam Science Society. Then the significance of the National Science Day was explained by Fr Vintu Augustine, principal, SFS School, Dhemaji. It was followed by art, science-based model and quiz competitions.
It is worth mentioning here that in the science model competition, Debashri Konwar and Subhashini Pegu of SFS School, Dhemaji bagged the first prize, Parilina Dutta and Astha Sarma of the same school bagged the second prize and Joyshree Deori and Gunita Chungkrang of Kasturba Gandhi Girls� School and Kishore Barman and Anup Barman of Dhemaji Town High School jointly got the third prize.
In the drawing competition, Rakhi Buragohain of Sankardev Bidya Niketon, Dhemaji won the first prize, Sibangi Sarma of SFS School, Dhemaji won the second prize and the third prize was jointly won by Nisthajita Kalita and Dharitri Dhanya Boruah of SFS School here. In the quiz competition, Subham J Boruah and Debashi Konwar bagged the first, Bhaswati Koushik and Animes Gogoi bagged the second and Prerona Borgohain and Antara Sarma Handique got the third prize.
The open meeting in the afternoon was held with Labanya Lahan Chutia in the chair. The meeting started with a welcome speech by Vintu Augustine. Dr Banjit Bhatta, associate professor, Biology, Dhemaji College, was the resource person who spoke on use of science and technology in the 21th century.
The meeting was attended by Karabi Deori, president, Aryabhatta Science Centre, Dhemaji Block, Dr Annajyoti Gogoi, head of the Botany department, Dhemaji College and assistant professor of the same college Madhurya Gogoi as distinguished guests. The purpose of the meeting was explained by Pratap Gowala, secretary, Assam Science Society, Dhemaji branch. The vote of thanks was offered by Biren Chetia, assistant coordinator of the science organisation.
