National Productivity Council�s governing council meeting held

GUWAHATI, June 28 - The 49th governing council meeting of National Productivity Council, an autonomous body under the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India was held yesterday through video conferencing and chaired by Piyush Goyal, Commerce & Industry Minister (CIM) and president of NPC governing council.

The meeting was attended by 180 participants comprising the government secretaries and joint secretaries, captains of industry associations, trade unions, heads of SBI, Unilever, BCG, FICCI, CII, NASSCOM, FISME, Mahindra & Mahindra, KPMG HMS, CITU, BMS, INTUC, AITUC, LPCs and officers of NPC Guwahati, etc, a press release said.

Goyal reminded the importance of the day being commemorated as Bankim Chandra Chatterjee�s 182nd birth anniversary and MSME Enterprises Day. He stressed the role of productivity in transformation of any organisation and suggested that adoption of technology and digital economy was going to play a vital role in not only transforming the business enterprises but also in achieving the target of $ 5 trillion economy given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Some of the suggestions discussed in the meeting included sector formulation of specific action plans by NPC, especially in agriculture and logistics sectors, identification of champion sectors which has the potential to drive the economy, adoption of technology to increase the productivity and delivering cost-effective solutions for marginalised sectors, interlinking of academia and industry for creation of a highly-skilled labour force, financing of specific products to support MSMEs and increase their productivity, national audit on security impact, etc.
