National Press Day observed at Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, Nov 19 - Delivering the keynote address on �Reporting from the conflict zone: challenges beforethe media�, the theme of this year�s National Press Day at Sivasagar circuit house on November 16, educationist Manoj Borthakur said that truth is the first victim of conflict wherever it flares up in its violent form. The role of the media becomes all the more critical as it has to survive in a hostile environment while reporting on happenings around truthfully, Borthakur said. He added that 79 reporters have been killed in Syria alone during the last five years and over 200 reporters killed in Iraq since the American invasion and yet undaunted reporters from around the globe are still engaged in their task in the combat zone.

Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Narayan Konwar inaugurated the meeting and called upon the media personnel to work dedicatedly to uphold truth as the Fourth Pillar of Democracy. Speaking on the occasion, Abhijit Baruah emphasised upon holding a media workshop on the subject. Priyanku Sarmah, Astt Commissioner, Sivasagar spoke on the objective and thanked the media personnel for attending the meeting, organised by Sivasagar District Administration. Somesh Dutta, president, Sivasagar District Journalists� Association and media representatives took part in the discussion.
