National Librarian�s Day observed in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Aug 13 - The Dibru College Central Library and the Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls� College Library here jointly organised a web talk on the occasion of 128th birth anniversary of Dr SR Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science, yesterday in keeping with National Librarians� Day.

Dipika Das, the librarian of Dibru College, paid tribute to Dr Ranganathan by lighting a traditional lamp. Madhumita Goswami Borthakur, associate professor of Dibru College, recited slokas from The Gita�before the commencement of the talk. The programme started with a welcome address by Dr Nibedita Phukan, Principal, MDKG College.

The inaugural address was delivered by Dr Jitu Buragohain, Principal, Dibru College. The programme was moderated by Prof Nandita Baishya, associate professor, Dibru College. Jadavjyoti Saikia, librarian, MDKG College, presented a brief life sketch of Dr Ranganathan.

Professor Ramesh Chandra Gaur, Dean and Head, Kala Nidhi Division of Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, New Delhi, was the key guest speaker in the web talk programme.

Professor Gaur highlighted the relevance of Dr Ranganathan in the present time. He raised various issues and challenges currently faced by the libraries across the country.�

Professor Gaur said it was important to give consideration to various challenges faced by the libraries.�

Dr Gaur further urged upon young professionals to come forward to tackle the emerging challenges and contribute towards enhancing the significance of the profession. He concluded his talk by saying: �Live with the profession and die with the profession�.

About 340 participants from India and abroad reportedly attended the web talk programme. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks from Dipika Das, librarian, Dibru College, a release stated.
