GUWAHATI, Feb 5 - The South Salmara Mankachar district has bagged a national award for proper execution of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) scheme, a press release stated.
Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani, presented the award at a function held at New Delhi recently.
Indore of Madhya Pradesh and Kurnool of Andhra Pradesh shared first and the second prize respectively, while South Salmara Mankachar district bagged the third prize.
In her speech, Union Minister Irani hailed the initiative taken by the Assam Government for implementation of PMMVY.
The Assam team was represented by Jishnu Baruah, Additional Chief Secretary of Assam; Hemen Das, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Social Welfare Department; Niva Das, Joint Director, Social Welfare Department and Kishori Baruah, District Social Welfare Officer of South Salmara Mankachar district.
