KOKRAJHAR, Aug 24 - The All BTC Nath Yogi Students Union (ABNYSU) today reiterated its demand for ST status and staged a three- hour sit-in-demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioners office here.

A large number of ABNYSU activists from the four BTC districts and lower Assam took part in the demonstration programme with banners and posters and also shouted slogans on their demands.

The ABNYSU also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India, the Governor of Assam and the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar.

The students body, while slamming the Government, said that the long-standing demands of the Nath Yogi community have been neglected for a long time.

Talking to media persons, ABNYSU secretary Arabinda Nath said that the student body would continue its agitation till its demands are fulfilled. In the coming days, the movement will be intensified, he warned.

In the memorandum, the ABNYSU demanded conferment of the ST status on the Nath Yogi community living in Assam, a satellite autonomous council for the community, inclusion of at least one member from the community in the Assam Public Service Commission, foolproof security of the life and properties of the common people of Assam, etc.
