By Correspondent

DHUBRI, Feb 7 - In a special summary revision of the electoral rolls for Dhubri, Gauripur and Golokganj LACs that was published on Wednesday, the names of 81 people have been deleted as they were declared foreigners by the tribunals.

In these three LACs, altogether 8,064 people were marked as D-voters, out of which 467 were declared Indians by the Foreigners Tribunal at Dhubri. A total of 10 persons in Dhubri LAC, 20 in Gauripur LAC and 51 in Golokganj LAC were declared foreigners.

Jintu Bora, election officer Dhubri, said All the rest 7,516 D-voters have cases pending in the Foreigners Tribunals, but most of them have been marked D with a doubt that they are foreigners.

The election officer also said that there were many persons in the district who have been marked as D-voters and their names have not appeared in the final draft of the NRC, but no cases are pending in the Foreigners Tribunals. Regarding such cases, we have asked the Border Branch of police to initiate cases and take action at the earliest, he said.

However, there have been a rise of 1.15 per cent voters in these three LACs with 1.29 per cent increase in Dhubri LAC, 1.27 per cent in Gauripur LAC and 0.88 per cent rise in Golokganj LAC.

Moreover, 14,589 new voters have been added and the names of 8,071 voters have been deleted from these three constituencies. Apart from the declared foreigners, the deleted names are due to reasons like death, permanent shift or repeated entry of names, said Bora.

However, ADC Animesh Talukdar, while addressing the press and political parties, said that this time the electoral rolls will be updated continuously and the administration will organise awareness programmes for voters, booth level officers and agents to prepare them for the ensuing elections.
