Namami Brahmaputra festival at Dhubri

GAURIPUR, March 20 - The Namami Brahmaputra festival will be held in the historic PC Barua playground and Jogamayaghat at Dhubri with a five-day colourful programme from March 31.

On March 31, the programme will start with a cultural procession and will be followed by a chorus. The festival, to be held for the first time at Dhubri, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Bahniman Brahmaputra, the souvenir will be released by Dhiraj Chaudhury, Deputy Commissioner on April 1 besides a chorus competition among the college students, an exhibition on ethnic clothes, food items, folk art materials, printing will also be held. An attractive boat race has also been arranged. On April 2, traditional sports will be held and a symposium and a lecture programme have also been fixed. An interesting boat journey from Chandardinga to Dhubri is also scheduled to be held on the occasion.

On April 3, traditional sports, literary programme, floating of lamps and a cultural function have also been arranged. On the last day of the festival, thiya naam, song on Padma Puran and a cultural evening with varieties of cultural items will be held.
