Nalbari Raas festival from today

NALBARI, Nov 5 � The annual Raas festival of Nalbari Sri Sri Harimandir premises, a large cultural and spiritual festival of the North-east India will began from November 6 with an eleven days programme. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is likely to inaugurate the 81st Raas festival of Nalbari Harimandir in an inaugural programme to be held at 4 pm tomorrow.

The celebration committee has been working day and night on a war footing to make the festival a grand success. The secretary of the Rass celebration committee Nareswar Kalita and secretary of the Nalbari Harimandir committee Nagen Deka said that the committee has taken some special measures to make it attractive to draw the attention of visitors. They further said that about fifty idol makers led by Bikram Paul of Maligaon have been engaged in idol making. They have newly made and repaired more than a thousand idols for display during the Rass festival. About 180 temporary stalls are under construction for the installation of the idols which will depict different incidents from the eventful life of Lord Krishna. A 50-foot high idol of Kaliya demon will be erected on the main gate to attract the visitors.

The Nalbari deputy commissioner Dr Om Prakash has taken some special measures to celebrate the Raas festival in a peaceful manner. The deputy commissioner directed the committee to close the Raas celebration by 12.30 am in every night and the administration will blow a siren at 12 am to alert the visitors and the business establishment.
