Nalbari PWD roads, bridges in a deplorable condition

By CORRESPONDENT

NALBARI, Aug 18 - The repeated slogans of development by the BJP Government are yet to be visible in the works of PWD (Roads) in Nalbari district. The inferior quality of road and bridge construction in Nalbari district reflects poorly on infrastructural development during the reign of the BJP Government.

As an example, heavy rain three days ago eroded a large portion of the Nalbari-Kamarkuchi PWD road on the eastern part of the Barmurikona concrete bridge over the Pagladia river. The road constructed a few months ago collapsed after the heavy rains, hitting road communication on the vital road connecting Barbhag and Pub Nalbari areas. Similar is the fate of the RCC bridge over the Satha channel at Pandula village under Barbhag revenue circle. Heavy rain eroded the approach road of the bridge which is abruptly higher than the road level. Travelling on the bridge has now become very risky due to erosion of the approach road.

Developmental activities appear to have now become only slogans for the Government as the condition of roads and bridges everywhere in Nalbari district has become very deplorable. The wooden bridge over the Buhradia river at Amoni village near Chamata collapsed on Thursday disturbing the road communication in that locality. The bridge which was lying in a pitiable condition for years together collapsed when a group of youths crossed it. However, they managed to escaped unhurt. The people of Amoni area alleged that they had been demanding the local MLA Chandra Mohan Patowary who is also the States Industries and Comerce Minister to repair the wooden bridge over the river. Unfortunately, no steps were initiated by the minister. The people have now demanded that a concrete bridge be constructed at Amoni as soon as possible.
