NALBARI, Oct 28 - In order to encourage people to celebrate Green Diwali, Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury organised more than seven street-corner meetings in different parts of Nalbari town on Sunday.

The Deputy Commissioner installed a microphone in his official vehicle and held the meetings in markets and street-corners.

He read out the leaflets issued by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to celebrate a pro-environment Diwali.

The Deputy Commissioner called upon the people to celebrate the Festival of Lights by lighting earthen lamps instead of bursting fire crackers, which adds to sound pollution and severely harms the fragile environment.

He added that bursting of high decibel fire crackers has negative impact on the environment and the human body.

The unique effort of the Deputy Commissioner drew the attention of the common people, who lauded his sincere efforts.

While talking to this Correspondent, the Deputy Commissioner said that the efforts initiated by the district administration reduced the use of crackers in the district to a considerable extent.
