Nalbari AJYCP for censorship on theatre

NALBARI, July 7 � The Nalbari district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) demanded of the proprietors of mobile theatre groups in the State not to allow this beautiful art form to degenerate into a pornography-like variety.

In a statement, Nalbari AJYCP president Diljit Barman and secretary Tafiqur Rahman called upon the State Government to constitute a censor board to prevent sexually explicit scenes from the theatre plays. They also threatened that if any mobile theatre producer ignored such social issues and add pornographic images in mobile theatre posters, the AJYCP volunteers will strictly resist it.

They hailed the decision of State Government to form the mobile theatre artiste welfare trust, but demanded to form the trust with Government fund. �When the Assamese mobile theatre groups success in performing at the national capital, this sector should maintain a clean image�, the release added.

The AJYCP unit also organised a seminar on the problems and prospects of mobile theatre groups, a mobile museum of Assamese culture, at Nalbari on July 10. The meeting will discuss the government decision for controlling mobile theatre groups which offers a lot of employment opportunities.

Workshop for scribes: The Nalbari District Journalists� Union, a parent body of the journalists working from the district, has decided to organise a day-long workshop on journalism at Nalbari Natya Mandir on July 18 next. The decision to this effect was taken in an executive meeting held at Chamata HS School recently.

The meeting, presided over by Ramen Kalita, president of Nalbari District Journalists Union, thoroughly discussed the deterioration of journalism at the district and decided to hold the workshop to train up those who have entered the field lately. The meeting was addressed by Rohini Medhi, president of All Assam Journalists� Union, (AAJU), Rajen Deka, Basanta Das, Amulya Kalita and Pradip Kalita, among others.

The meeting also decided to approach ministers, MLAs and other individuals for donations to build the office at Nalbari town for which a plot of land was allotted to the union by the Government.
