Nalbari AGP workers oppose poll alliance

By Correspondent

NALBARI, March 3 - The Nalbari district committee of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has strongly opposed the poll alliance with the BJP.

Protesting the decision, hundreds of AGP activists in the district staged a dharna in front of the district AGP office on Wednesday evening. They raised slogans against the party high command for their suicidal decision.

Later, addressing a press meet, the central executive member of the AGP, Akan Malla Baruah, said that the AGP won the Nalbari seat for five times. The party is still getting more votes than the BJP in all elections, including Zilla Parisad, Panchayat and Municipal Board.

We are not ready to offer the Nalbari seat to the BJP, Baruah said, adding that the activists of Nalbari AGP will take stern steps if the party high command takes such a decision. According to him, out of 52 district committees of the AGP, only three districts sought poll alliance with the BJP.

The press conference was attended by AGPs central executive Akram Hussain, district president Ananda Rajbangshi and Naren Das, president of the Nalbari LAC committee.
