Nalbari ADC hailed for brave act

GUWAHATI, July 20 � The Kamrup Metro district unit of the Assam Civil Service Officers Association in its meeting held here today appreciated the handling of the serious law-and-order situation at Tihu on July 17 by Additional DC of Nalbari Mrigesh Narayan Baruah.

Baruah, risking his life, had caught hold of a berserk CRPF personnel, who had started indiscriminate firing during a peaceful protest rally by a local organization.

Two persons, including a Class IX student and a CRPF assistant sub-inspector, were killed when a CRPF havildar opened fire indiscriminately from his service rifle at Nathkuchi near Tihu during a road blockade by activists of Tihu Subdivision Demand Committee.

Baruah had caught the arms of the CRPF havildar and had overpowered him, before other CRPF personnel were able to pin him down.
