NALBARI, Aug 12 - Activists of Nalbari district unit of All Assam Students� Union (AASU) staged a symbolic protest against CAA-2019 and EIA-2020 by forming a human chain on PNC road near Nalbari Natya Mandir today.
Around 200 protesters formed the human chain and blocked the important road. They shouted slogans against Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP for their anti-Assam attitude. Slogans were also raised against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the Draft Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), 2020.
Due to the protest, the vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt. A protest meeting was also held on the occasion, where the president of Nalbari AASU Gunajyoti Pathak said that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has surrendered himself before the powers in Delhi and remained silent on issues vital for the State. �We will have to lose our rights on our natural resources if the Draft EIA is executed, said Himan Barman, organising secretary of central AASU.
The protest meeting was conducted by Akshay Deka, general secretary of district AASU and was addressed by Bhabajit Bezbaruah, central executive member of AASU.
